How is it possible to save so much energy?

Most buildings mix heating and cooling in lots of different places to achieve temperature.

This furthers discomfort because the aircon produces more hot and cold draughts that necessary.

By modifying the control system to reduce the mixing of hot and cold, there is a large energy saving. In the example of the balance scale image above, the cost saving is two thirds for the same result.

It is worth understanding that there is no simple silver bullet to achieving this and it requires an advancement in the control system, which takes into account the tenants needs and the thermodynamics of the building. Sites that we have worked on require consistently good maintenance and a process of gradual improvement, each stage producing a marginal gain. Dozens of small improvements, for instance the programming of Bank Holidays as a simple example, add up to a lot.
